  I think people are in a sleeplike state because Jesus and Paul said the dead were sleeping.

  
  The scriptures are very specific in that our spirits do not "sleep".

  2 Corinthians 5:5-9 (King James Version) 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
  9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. The Bible is full of methaphors - "sleep" is one of them:

  Your greatest turn of luck

  what was your greatest turn of luck in life, finding a treasure or winning the lotterry, a great spouse, a good teacher or something else?

  for me it was investing in a flat that saw a big increase in its value in two years.

  Also, getting fired (unfairly) from an average job. It forced me to improve my skills and not coast and start contracting. I now earn 5x what I did then (~10 years ago). Don't assume that current bad news is always bad news in the long run. It may just be an opportunity.

  Isn't that the truth! One realizes that more and more the older you get and you can look over your life's shoulder.

  OK believers, time to put up or shut up...

  apparently, a large percentage of xjw's who post on this site have embraced some other form of god/jesus belief to replace the wt doctrine.

  most of them fall into the "i accept the lord jesus christ as my personal savior" class.

  they are still extremely attached to the old "forgiveness of sin through the shed blood of jc" line.

  Fanaticism is the problem, not belief in God or anti-God belief. When they have the political and/or military power, fanatical religionists will ban and kill those who will not "put up or shut up." Fanatical atheists also have no problem with banning and killing those who will not "put up or shut up."

  really? even those who've been tagically vaporized? And what would be the purpose of God putting them (their souls) in a sleep-like state?

  my mother and her friend were talking at da weekend and they reckon we are not only in the last days but the last hours.

  i know most of you dont believe that anymore, but do some of you still get scared by it.

  my father goes to church. he thinks that all the christians are going to be taken off the earth when jesus returns and then everyone left over will be in a big war, will end up dead then go to hell.
  
  

  one nutty family i have got.

  Everyone has a 'nutty' family in one way or another. Your father's belief in "the rapture" is shared by many Christians, but I don't think a majority. It's all about interpretation of certain scriptures. fyi, I'm a Christian, I believe in a loving Creator and I don't believe in a literal hell, as in a firey place. There's enough Hell on earth to worry about right now, let alone some imaginary tomb of doom.

  How do some of you, find so much time to be on this board?

  i have noticed that some posters are here a lot, and i was just wondering how you find so much time to do that?

  between work, coming home and playing with my child, working outdoors in the yard, and enjoying the weekend in the outdoors doing fishing, hiking or just getting outside.

  i have little time for places like this and yet some are here "a lot!

  i think she is just a darling girl, but not anywhere in the same league as the ones left now.

  My prediction: It will end as a showdown between Catherine and Elliot, and Catherine will take it.

  Catherine is absolutely stunning and has huge star potential. Paris will go next, she's cute, but not much charisma.

  Taylor is wearing thin and seems to get weaker every week.

  I think that one day you will find out you are part of the universe and that god is the universe. So we are all part of eachother. All the evil and good is part of the whole. And we only experience a small part of it for now. And that is why karma exists because you can only hurt yourself in reality.

  Well said. And I don't think "that one day" necessarily means sometime in the 80 odd years on this mortal plane. Life is eternal.... so is our discovery.

  Too bad you haven't learned anything in your ;life experience to answer ;the basic, theology 101 question that I have asked.

  Gregor.... what in the h*ll are you talking about. You have no knowledge on what I have or have not learned in my life experience, so that's moot. The BASIC THEOLOGY 101 question? ..... like I give a rat's patootee what certain men have put together and call it a class on "god".

  I am beginning to see the meaning behind your avatar.

  You 'see' only what you want to see - that's my point.

  Lest you think I'm 'angry' with god let me assure you I am no more angry with god than I am angry with the cupboard door I left open and cracked my head on.
